Join the Global Wave of Light: A Celebration of Remembrance
Global Wave of Light – Each year, on 15th October, people across the world come together to illuminate the darkness. They remember babies and children who have died during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy.
As a funeral celebrant, I have witnessed first-hand how collective acts of remembrance can bring solace. It also brings solidarity to grieving families.
The Global Wave of Light is a beautiful, unifying event. It allows us to honour these precious lives and offer support to those who mourn.
What Is the Global Wave of Light?
The Global Wave of Light is part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, a special initiative. It invites people everywhere to light a candle at 19:00 (local time) tonight. You are encouraged to leave it burning for at least one hour.
This simple yet powerful gesture creates a wave of light that travels around the globe. It shines hope and love into the hearts of those touched by loss.
Whether you light a candle at home, with friends, or as part of a community gathering, your participation sends a clear message. You are not alone, and your child is remembered.
Why Is This Important?
Bereavement, especially following the loss of a baby or child, can be an isolating experience.
While nothing can take away the pain, support and understanding from others can make a world of difference.
The Global Wave of Light offers a moment for reflection, remembrance, and connection.
It is a chance for parents, siblings, extended family, and friends to join together. They can honour a life that has ended too soon and acknowledge the depth of their love and loss.
How Can You Take Part?
- Light a candle: At 19:00 tonight (15th October), light a candle and leave it burning for at least an hour. You can do this in the comfort of your home, at a special place, or during a commemorative event.
- Share your light: If you wish, share a photo of your candle on social media using the hashtag #WaveOfLight. By doing so, you join a worldwide community united in compassion and remembrance.
- Reflect or pray: Take a quiet moment to reflect, meditate, or pray for the children who have been lost and for the families who love and remember them.
- Reach out: Connect with others who might be struggling. A simple message or gesture can make a significant impact.

A Message of Hope and Togetherness
As a celebrant, my role is to help people honour those they have lost. I assist them to find meaning in moments of sadness.
The Global Wave of Light is an extraordinary example. Shared rituals can help us process grief and celebrate enduring love.
So, let’s come together tonight and light up the world, one candle at a time. We will remind each other that though our little ones may be gone, they are never forgotten…
