Funeral Directors
Welcome!
Here, you’ll find information about:
Working with me…
A Death Doula;
6 years arranging funerals and taking care of the deceased;
1 year supporting trainees through their Funeral Service Diplomas;
3 years as chapel attendant and cremation technician.
I’m thankful for every chance to support those who have lost someone they love.
For me, a funeral/memorial ceremony is a gathering of two halves:
In honour of the deceased –
Celebrating their life and character, input and legacy.
In support of their loved ones –
Bringing comfort as you bid them ‘farewell’.
With no limitations on what someone can mean nor the things that can give comfort, the ceremonies I’m honoured to create can include any element the family would like.
The only constraint I uphold is the timeslot set by the venue.
How I’ll support our clients
This website – tomosjames.com – is building resources that might prove useful to both you and your families. So far, these include:
- My online diary where you can check my availability and pencil in the funeral date. Once received, I’ll call you back to confirm the date and details (usually within the hour).
- Working with me – a page and PDF that gives you and the family a breakdown of how I work, laying bare what they can expect.
- Guide: Your meeting with your funeral celebrant – a page (soon to be PDF) that offers the family the chance to prepare for our meeting by giving them an overview of the information I’m after and getting them thinking about readings, music, personalisation etc.
The support and guidance I offer will be continually updated.
Once notified and confirmed, I aim to call the family the next working day (unless otherwise requested) to introduce myself and arrange our meeting.
I’ll then:
- Let you know the date of my meeting with the family.
- Keep you in the loop on music, instructions, and anything else pertinent to these arrangements that might change.
- Supply a running order for Orders of Service within a few days of meeting them (if applicable).
- Call you on the last working day before the funeral just to make sure we’re on the same page.
After all, a funeral can easily be a success measured by its weakest part. Communication and teamwork are key.
My being a funeral celebrant is a perfect fit for me – I get to be thankful and humbled and more importantly, I get the chance to ease some of the burden death imparts and celebrate life.
Should you need any more information about me, my celebrant practice, or would like to book a chat over a cuppa – please do pop online or get in touch (my contact details are below).
