I wandered on, as one does do
Still ticking off that stupid fool
When someone near me suddenly cried
“SHIT! A WITCH! QUICK! HIDE!”
“WHERE?” Some screamed in frozen move
I called out, “YOU STUPID FOOLS!
“THERE AIN’T NO WITCHES HERE!
“THEY DON’T EXIST!” I spat with sneer.
And yet still I heard it echo on
“AARGH! A WITCH! QUICK! RUN!”
“WHERE? I CAN’T SEE IT!” Fear in eyes
“THERE! LOOK! A WITCH! HIDE!”
Some fools dashed hither while others screamed fro
(I tripped one up on a “WATCH OUT! WHOAH!”)
And soon I found this street all mine
Just me, my feet, no wretched swine.
No gnarled face, neither, with vicious twist
Nor cauldron boiling, bubbling cyst
Just scattered things across the road
Dropped and left by foolish folk.
So on I went towards my home
And I caught myself in all I wore
In a window of a nearby place
And I looked like me, I looked quite great.
Yet still these fools cowered up in trees
And still they whispered, “Look! Witch! Don’t breathe!”
And still I shouted, “PATHETIC FOOLS!
“THERE AIN’T NO WITCHES HERE!”
