A strength inside

When things feel dark and dreary
And you’ve nowhere left to turn
There’s a strength inside that’s steely
That’s yours and yours alone.
It’s nothing like a muscle
And it’s no brittle bit of flesh
It’s the space amongst the rubble
And the air within your breath.
You’ll find it in the pounding
In your relief once bladder dry
It’s a strength somewhat astounding
The fact that you’re alive.
