Choosing the right Funeral Home

A choice between the best…

For some a particular Funeral Home will hold significance through an historic connection and their decision will be easy, but for others being faced with death is a new experience, so where should they go?

The phone book and internet listings are full of them, so who do they choose?

Shop around

Ask family and friends – they’ll likely have a recommendation, or may know someone who does – and call up local Funeral Homes and get a feel for them – ask them questions – and don’t forget to ask for a quote!

Depending on wishes and local charges (London, for example, will be higher), you’ll be looking at:

• Cremation, around £3,500 to £4,000 *

• Burial, around £4,000 to £4,500 *

* estimates, based in 2015

Some Funeral Homes charge more, some offer more of a bespoke service – shop around and settle only when you’ve found value for money.

These people will be looking after your loved one, after all – feel comfortable.

  1. I like that you suggested asking family if they have any places they would recommend. I have been looking for a place to hold my father’s funeral, but I wasn’t sure how to choose one. I can see how it might be a good idea to ask my uncle, because he planned a funeral recently.
